The casting for Superman: Legacy continues to shape up nicely as Skyler Gisondo from HBO’s Righteous Gemstones lands the righteous role of Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, and he’s not alone. Sara Sampaio will be joining him as Lex Luthor’s righthand woman Eve Teschmacher.
The Daily Planet’s best and possibly only photographer is now accounted for as Skyler Gisondo fills his shoes, whether or not he’ll be wearing a bow tie to match remains to be seen. Anyway, we’re not here to discuss fashion choices, but we are here to also discuss the Victoria’s Secret model Sara Sampaio joining the cast as well. She will be playing Eve Teschmacher, Luthor’s assistant/mistress.

The duo will be joining Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Other cast members include María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as my least favorite Green Lantern Guy Gardener.
Now that the Actors’ Strike is over the movie is ready to commence filming early next year just in time for its July 11, 2025 release date.
The History of Jimmy Olsen
Jimmy Olsen made his debut in Action Comics #6 as a nameless character with a bow tie. After that, Olsen was officially introduced on The Adventures of Superman radio show on April 15, 1940, before making a formal return to the comics in the following year.

Olsen was played by Jack Larson in Superman’s first live-action television series, The Adventures of Superman back in the 1950s, then Marc McClure played Superman’s pal in 1978’s Superman starring Christopher Reeve and its three sequels. Decades later, Sam Huntington played him in 2006’s Superman Returns. Zack Snyder cast Michael Cassidy as Jimmy in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), though the character was a CIA operative posing as a photographer and was quickly terminated in a way that left many fans divided.
Who Is Ms. Teschmacher? Not Mercy Graves!
Eve Teschmacher on the other hand did not originate in the comics, we met her in Richard Donner’s Superman where he was played by Valerie Perrine.
Many have confused Eve Teschmacher with Mercy Graves, including myself. They are two completely different characters who seem to take turns as Luthor’s assistant in common media, however, Graves is Luthor’s bodyguard, not assistant. As far as we know there is no indication of Mercy Graves appearing in Superman: Legacy.
If you have not seen HBO’s Righteous Gemstones but recognize Skyler Gisondo’s face then you may have seen him in Olivia Wylde’s Booksmart, Santa Clarita’s Diet, or The Amazing Spider-Man where he played Gwen Stacy’s brother George Stacy. If you’re old like I am, you may remember him in that one episode of Drake & Josh where he played Megan’s temporary assistant to torment those two clowns whenever she was not available to do it herself.
Sara Sampaio has been modeling since 2006 but she’s still new to the acting scene, having made her debut in 2017 playing herself in the comedy The Clapper. Following that she made appearances in the films Carga, Crisis, and Sombra in addition to music video appearances. Her role as Eve Teschmacher seems to be her breakout role and I look forward to seeing what she has to offer.
