It looks like Rockstar dropped the trailer earlier than scheduled due to an apparent leak according to the developer’s social media account. The newly revealed trailer is set to Tom Petty’s “Love Is A Long Road” and revealed that the game is due out later in 2025. You can check out the newly revealed trailer below:

The new game brings players back to the fictional state of Leonida and the neon-soaked streets of Vice City. Rockstar Games is promising that this title will be “the biggest, most immersive” entry in the franchise to date. It also reveals another major first for the franchise, a female protagonist by the name of Lucia. It looks like after she gets out of prison, she goes on a Bonnie and Clyde-like crime spree, with a male love interest who is also featured in the trailer.

The game is currently in the works for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Speaking on the game reveal via a press release, Rockstar Games Founder Sam Houser stated, “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.” He continued, “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

The new trailer release marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of Rockstar Games. The brand pioneered open-world games when it launched the legendary Grand Theft Auto III back in 2001. Since the release, Rockstar has continued to spawn hit after hit in the franchise with the likes of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Grand Theft Auto V. GTA V is one of the best-selling games of all time. It’s sold more than 190 million copies to date.

The only catch is the release period. 2025 is a fairly broad release period. That could be anywhere from January to December of that year, so the game won’t be out for at least a year from now. Also, a Windows PC release has not yet been announced. However, it’s a good bet the game will eventually be released on PC later on, similar to prior GTA game releases.

Based on the footage, it’s hard to tell what are in-game cutscenes, or just footage that was cut for the trailer, along with what will be actual gameplay. Nonetheless, the trailer delivered in showcasing a new franchise installment that offers up a glorious return to Vice City, along with that trademark GTA atmosphere.
