Cardfight Vanguard is a multimedia franchise that primarily consists of a physical trading card game and an anime series. The anime TV franchise focuses on characters who play Cardfight Vanguard. On the surface, the premise is very similar to Yu-Gi-Oh. There have been many different anime within the franchise since the its creation in 2011, such as Cardfight!! Vanguard G, Cardfight Vanguard overDress, and Cardfight Vanguard will+Dress. On Jan. 12, 2024, a new anime series titled Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez premiered on the official company Youtube channel.
In this universe, Cardfight Vanguard is a trading card game that has existed since ancient times. People have poured their hearts and souls into cardfighting, and the connection between humans and cards can become powerful enough to transcend the laws of physics. An epic orchestral score complements the tense narration as the sky opens up with golden cracks of light.

We learn that the destiny of six individuals is to become the “Fated Ones”, individuals who have been granted a chance at changing fate. They have been chosen because their deepest wishes are so strong that they have been recognized by some sort of higher power. These six have different desires, but the fiery intensity of their passion unifies them.
The narrative introduction is bold and magical, consistently major elements of Cardfight Vanguard. After this expositional prologue, we meet the main character Akina Myodo and his sister Hikari. Akina is making food peacefully while his sister is over the moon with excitement for the Cardfight Vanguard Deluxe tournament finals. Hikari is adorable, full of energy and anticipation for every moment. Akina is generally calm, cool and collected, and he cares about his little sister more than anything. She has struggled with routine sickness throughout her life, and Akina’s wish is for her health to improve permanently. Their bond is truly sweet and emotional, and it lays some amazingly tender groundwork for this kids anime series.
Cardfight Vanguard overDress and Cardfight Vanguard will+Dress form a loose trilogy with Cardfight Vanguard Divinez. This new series does feature returning characters from overDress and will+Dress such as Megumi Okura, Masanori Iseki and Taizo Kiyokura. However, no prior familiarity with the franchise is required to understand and enjoy the delightful premiere of Divinez.

A spirit possessing an adorable dragon plushie named Gabwellius meets Akina Myodo and informs him of his role in the “Fated Clash“. Akina is instantly motivated by the opportunity to improve his sister’s life. Gabwellius’ interactions with Akina are hilarious and informative, serving as the connection to the magical world of Vanguard for both viewer and protagonist.
Cardfight Vanguard Divinez is a simple anime that succeeds because of its upbeat energy and captivating world-building. The premiere draws you in with the promise of an amazing adventure in a grand universe more magical and card-game obsessed than our own.
