Indiana Jones is an American media franchise that consisted of five films and a prequel television series along with games, comics, and tie-in novels that depicted the many adventures of fictional professor of archaeology Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana Jones Jr., portrayed by Harrison Ford. Created by film producer George Lucas, the character was a homage to and a re-imagination of the action-packed matinee serials that the producer enjoyed as a child.

The fifth film was directed by James Mangold and in 1992, the franchise expanded to a television series with The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, where it explored the character in his childhood and youth, including his adventures with his parents. Numerous Indiana Jones video games have been released since 1982.
