Dead Boy Detectives Trailer
Originally developed for HBO Max, Dead Boy Detectives found a home on Netflix to be among family.
If you’re a fan of The Sandman series on Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives just may be your cup of tea. The show is set in the same universe with Dream and all those paranormal folks. Neil Gaiman, the brain behind both DC horrors is onboard as an executive producer.
“Charles was more or less me as a boy, I loved writing him and Edwin, and was proud to send them out into the world. Who amongst us can honestly say that if we were hanging around the Earth as a ghost we wouldn’t want to start a detective agency? I think what fans responded to the most was their good-heartedness and dedication.”

It’s undeniable that Neil Gaiman’s spirit lives through the Dead Boy Detectives, but he’s not alone in his dedication to making sure that the series stays true to its weird, woeful, and wickedly entertaining energy. Showrunners Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz appear to be resolved in doing right by the supernatural sleuthing series.
“We’re free to get as psychedelic as possible while still honoring the mystery-horror tone, The bittersweet nature of Edwin and Charles having only become friends because of their tragic deaths is what makes their friendship such a unique story to explore.”
Beth Schwartz via Tudum
“If The Sandman is this really lush, rich supernatural drama, then Dead Boy Detectives is the Hardy Boys on acid, hopefully just as addictive, but through a severely cracked lens”, Yockey added.
Meet The Dead Boy Detectives
We’ve discussed what the people behind the camera are all about, now it’s time to get acquainted with the guys in front of the camera.
George Rexstrew / Edwin Payne
George Rexstrew is playing Edwin Payne, the brain of the duo. Payne attended St. Hilarion’s boarding school for boys in 1916 when bullies quite literally sold his soul to the devil. He spent 70 years being held captive in Hell before meeting his other half Charles. As stated earlier, Payne is the brain of the duo. He extensively studies the occult to better solve mysteries and fend off supernatural threats. This is Rexstrew’s first major role.

Jayden Revri / Charles Rowland
Jayden Revri is playing Charles Rowland, the brawn of the duo. Rowland died in 1990 after being assaulted by bullies at St. Hilarion’s, the same school Edwin attended. He befriended Payne, opting to join him in solving occult mysteries instead of spending an eternity in the afterlife. Charles is a fighter, armed with a magical cricket bat, a bag of tricks that holds almost anything, and a tough courageous attitude.
You may recognize Revri from The Lodge, Fate: The Winx Saga, and a few minor TV appearances. This is his biggest role to date.
