We have found the actor who will be playing Papa Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic. It’s none other than the talented Academy Award-nominated actor, Colman Domingo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has found their Joe Jackson in actor Colman Domingo. Domingo is a versatile actor and I have no qualms about his performance in this upcoming biopic titled Michael. Many young people may know him as Ali from the HBO hit show Euphoria.

Others may know him from the 2023 Netflix film Rustin, The Color Purple which was a musical period drama film released in 2023, and many other successful movies and TV series. His performance in Rustin just earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Even his Rustin co-star Glynn Turman agreed with this saying: “Colman Domingo can play anything. He’s a fantastic actor!”
COLMAN DOMINGO JOINS MICHAEL JACKSON BIOPIC AS JOE JACKSON
Joe Jackson was the father of Michael, Janet, and their other eight siblings, and the creator of The Jackson Five. He died in 2018 at the age of 89 years old. It would be interesting to see how Domingo embraces the character and handles the trauma of outliving his son (Michael Jackson) if the biopic goes in that direction. Especially since he was known to not be a loving father.
“Not only am I fortunate to have a rich, complex, and flawed character to portray in Joe Jackson, but I also have a front-row seat for Jaafar’s incredible transformation. After seeing him in rehearsal, my mind was blown,” Domingo said in a statement. “There is something divine about the way that Jaafar is channeling his late uncle. His talent and embodiment of Michael’s essence is simply on another level.”
