The arrival of a mysterious European ship and its English pilot, “John Blackthorne” (Cosmo Jarvis), brings secrets that could shift the balance of power in Toranaga’s favor, setting off a chain of events that intertwine the fates of Toranaga, Blackthorne, and their translator, “Toda Mariko” (Anna Sawai), a Christian noblewoman caught between her faith, her duty, and her heart.
