Bray Wyatt had been off TV because he was dealing with an undisclosed medical issue last year. In late August, Wyatt unexpectedly died.  He was battling lasting effects from COVID-19 and had worsened previous heart conditions.  While sleeping, he suffered a heart attack and died.

LA Knight Recalls Working Bray Wyatt’s Last Match

Bray Wyatt’s last match was at the 2023 Royal Rumble in a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match against LA Knight.  This would be Wyatt’s last match before his death.  Knight was recently a guest on In The Kliq podcast and talked about being Wyatt’s last match. Knight said on the experience:

“I don’t really think about it too too much just because it’s a weird thing to consider and celebrate, I guess, in a weird way. I wish I wasn’t his last match, so I think that’s really more the way I think about it. At the same time, that was an experience for me where that was an opportunity, and I don’t know that it was looked at as an opportunity in a lot of ways. I think it was just thought of as here’s a guy who can handle himself in this situation and help to put the spotlight on Bray and bring him back, as I did.

“But at the same time, man did I shine a light on myself as much as I could. If they gave me 30 seconds, if they gave me two minutes, no matter how much time I had on that TV screen, my God was I gonna make a splash. My God, was I gonna make a loud noise and that’s exactly what I did. So in that sense, I’m very grateful for that.”

Knight is grateful for being Wyatt’s last match and being able to set up Wyatt’s return to the ring.  WWE trusted him enough to put a spotlight on one of their biggest stars.  The big match brought more eyes on Knight and allowed him to show fans what he could do.  He is also grateful for being able to take that opportunity and make the most of it.

Since that match, Knight has become more and more popular.  It is hard to pinpoint where that momentum first started, but a big match with Bray Wyatt is a very good starting place.

Knight has taken that momentum and had big matches at the top of the card.  Two of those big matches include a match with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and a Fatal 4-Way match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

LA Knight Closer to WWE Gold

Knight’s next big match is in the Elimination Chamber match on Feb. 24.  He qualified for the match on last night’s Raw.  So far the confirmed participants are Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, and Knight with two open spots.

The winner of the Elimination Chamber match will face World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at WrestleMania. Knight has an opportunity to finally win some gold in WWE.  He is dead set on finally having some gold around his waist and he will take it from whoever he needs to take it from. He stated the following:

WrestleMania, at this point, as far as the WWE Universal Undisputed Championship, that’s already been determined. So, it’s not going to be me and Roman Reigns … With that being the case, am I open to another opportunity on the way to claiming my throne at some point, absolutely. Will I cross paths with Logan Paul? I don’t know. Will I cross paths with GUNTHER? I don’t know. Will I cross paths with Seth Rollins? I don’t know. But at some point, one way or another, I’m coming for gold and I’m looking for the top spot, ’cause I can’t be in any other spot.”

The final two matches to determine the final two spots for the Elimination Chamber match are Kevin Owens vs. Dominik Mysterio and Logan Paul vs. The Miz.  Both matches will take place on this week’s SmackDown.

Do you think having a unique match type like the Mountain Dew Pitch Black match was a good last match type for Bray Wyatt or should it have a traditional match type?  Do you think that match was the start of LA Knight’s climb to the top of the card?  If Wyatt hadn’t faced Knight in that match, do you think LA Knight would be where he is now?  Who do you think will fill the final spots for the Elimination Chamber match?  Let us know on social media who you think will win the Elimination Chamber match.
