During this week’s presentation at the Television Critics Association (TCA), Peacock announced four scripted shows getting straight-to-series orders. Among them was a new techno-thriller series starring MCU star Simu Liu (Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) that he’s executive producing with The Conjuring and Aquaman director James Wan.

The new show is currently in the works from Universal Studio Group. The other three shows that received straight-to-series orders include a miniseries about John Wayne Gacy, a suburban-thriller limited series, and a mockumentary comedy series.
NEW JAMES WAN AND SIMU LIU COLLABORATION LANDS STRAIGHT-TO-SERIES ORDER AT PEACOCK
The new Wan and Liu project is still currently untitled. It’s described as an “espionage techno-thriller” drama. Here’s the lowdown on the other announced shows:
- Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy: a limited series from the producers of Dr. Death and NBC News Studios, based on the harrowing exploits of one of America’s most notorious serial killers and the rigorous investigation that ultimately brought him down.
- All Her Fault: a suburban-thriller limited series, adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name, which opens on a plausibly terrifying situation that eventually unearths the deep secrets of a wealthy Chicago community
- Mr. Throwback: a mockumentary comedy series starring NBA legend Stephen Curry and Adam Pally.
The techno-thriller from Wan and Liu features Thomas Brandon (Legacies) as creator, head writer, and executive producer. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett are executive producing the show for Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone is overseeing it for Atomic Monster as well. It’s being co-produced with UCP, a division of the Universal Studio Group. Here’s an official synopsis (via press release):
“Five minutes in the future, a first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Simu Liu) realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”

This is the second show recently announced by Peacock from Wan’s Atomic Monster banner. Peacock also previously announced a straight-to-series order for the contemporary horror-thriller series, Teacup, which was previously known as the Untitled Ian McCulloch Project. Wan is also executive producing that show along with Ian McCulloch, who is writing the series. It’s another co-production between Atomic Monster and UCP.
This sounds like an exciting new project for Wan and Liu. The concept sounds unique and interesting for a TV series. It definitely appears that Peacock is making some big moves for its original shows in the coming years, hot off the heels of the success of shows like Poker Face.
The currently untitled James Wan and Simu Liu project is currently in the works for Peacock. It will air exclusively on the streamer later on, and its title will be revealed later as well.
