KARATE KID: Ming-Na Wen Joins Cast for Upcoming Franchise Revival

'THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT' star, Ming-Na Wen has been casted in the upcoming new 'KARATE KID' film.

Variety reports that Ming-Na Wen has officially joined the cast of Sony’s new Karate Kid film. Wen is known for her previous roles in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as Melinda May and The Mandalorian/ The Book of Boba Fett as Fennec Shand. This news comes after it was previously announced that American Born Chinese actor Ben Wang had been cast in the titular role with Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprising their iconic roles from the franchise.

Sadie Stanley has already been cast as the leading lady of the film with Joshua Jackson being part of the film as well. Details of Wen’s role are currently under wraps and the film will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World). Rob Lieber will be penning the screenplay while Karen Rosenfelt will produce it. The film is set to be released in theaters on December 13, 2024.

KARATE KID: A GENERATIONAL SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE

There’s no doubt that the world of the Karate Kid has become a big success for many years. The Karate Kid films have earned $618 million globally and have even spawned the Emmy-nominated Netflix series, Cobra Kai. The series takes place decades after the events of the original films and it reawakens a rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

The official synopsis of the upcoming new Karate Kid film is being kept secret but the film will center upon Wang’s character as he moves from China to the East Coast and discovers his full potential in Karate while receiving the guidance of one or two familiar masters in the craft.

Wen has had many successful acting accomplishments under her belt. While working in the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian, she was honored as a Disney Legend in 2019 for her numerous Disney projects. Mulan and The Joy Luck Club.

Wen has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2023. She is set to star in the film Peachville with Academy Award nominees Paul Giamatti and Simon Pegg.
