Ridley Scott’s original Nightmare Fuel returns to theaters in horrifying fashion with Fede Alvarez’s new film, Alien: Romulus. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming feature was at last revealed today, and the new installment of the franchise arrives later this summer.

Alien: Romulus, the newest entry into the Alien franchise, has released its first teaser trailer and poster. The film, the first entry into the franchise since 2017’s Alien: Covenant, promises a return to the franchise’s roots with horror, gore, and suspense the franchise hasn’t seen since the original 1979 film first struck theaters 45 years ago.

ALIEN: ROMULUS FEATURES THE RETURN OF THE XENOMORPH

Directed by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe), Romulus takes place between the two iconic first films and follows a group of young space colonizers scavenging the deep ends of a space station when they come face to face-hugger with the galaxy’s most horrifying creatures.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), and Aileen Wu. 20th Century Studios is promising that the new installment back to its roots, and the teaser definitely appears to suggest that, with designs and architrave that look much closer to Alien and its iconic sequel, Aliens.

In the new installment, a group of young space colonizers are scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station. In the process, they come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe: the Xenomorphs.

Alvarez directs the feature from a screenplay he co-wrote with longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues, who he worked with on Don’t Breathe 2. The film is based on the characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. It’s produced by original Alien filmmaker Ridley Scott, who also directed the previous prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

Along with the teaser trailer, 20th Century Studios also released the first poster for the feature, which you can check out below:

After the failure of 2017’s Covenant, will Fede Alvarez redeem the franchise? The Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director already has everything he needs to take the franchise into the future with suspenseful horror and blood and gore already in his belt. And with Ridley Scott (director of the original 1979 film) producing the new installment and giving his stamp of approval, that appears to mean that fans can rest easy (for now) that the film will live up to expectations.
