HBO is gearing up for the release of Park Chan-wook’s The Sympathizer, the adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. You might recognize it by now as the show where recently-minted Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. will be playing multiple roles.

With only a couple more weeks to go before it premieres on the network, a new trailer was revealed last week, giving us our best look yet at the scope and tone of the upcoming seven-part series. Check it out here:
THE SYMPATHIZER DEBUTS ON HBO LATER THIS MONTH
The story of the show follows Hoa Xuande as The Captain, a Vietnamese spy who escapes to America after the fall of Saigon but continues to work there for the North Vietnamese regime. Though it’s not a full-fledged comedy, there is a tongue-in-cheek tone that makes it stand out as an out-of-the-box spy thriller.
The Sympathizer will succeed the Kate Winslet-led The Regime in HBO’s Sunday night programming slot and will be followed, after wrapping at the end of May, by the second season of House of the Dragon.

The series will start airing on April 14, and the episodes (released weekly) will be available immediately on Max.
