According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources have said that Marvel and Levy are talking about the project while the studio gave the filmmaker the latest script last week. It has also been said that Levy is one of the many filmmaker contenders for the high-profile project.

SHAWN LEVY’S BUSY SCHEDULE INFLUENCED HIS TURNING DOWN THE AVENGERS 5 GIG BEFORE

This isn’t the first time Marvel has offered the directing gig to Levy. In mid-March, he was offered the position of directing the film but the filmmaker ultimately turned it down. There were some scheduling conflicts as at the time, Levy had work to do on Deadpool & Wolverine and directing the last season of Stranger Things. He is due to direct two episodes and is also an executive producer on the series.

Levy is well-known for his work such as directing the Night of the Museum franchise, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, Date Night and Real Steel. He earned an Academy Award nomination for the 2016 sci-fi film, Arrival. He’s also collaborated with Ryan Reynolds not only for the upcoming Deadpool film but also in 2021’s Free Guy and 2022’s The Adam Project.

Michael Waldron, the creator of the hit Marvel Disney+ series, Loki, was in charge of writing the recent drafts of scripts for the project. The Kang Dynasty was the original subtitle of the film but due to the studio parting ways with Jonathan Majors, the subtitle was dropped. Destin Daniel Cretton was previously going to direct The Kang Dynasty but departed from the project in November.

Joss Whedon directed the first Avengers film and the sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Joe and Anthony Russo took over the mantle and directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time upon its release in 2019, making $2.8 billion globally until James Cameron’s original Avatar was rereleased and it gained $2.9 billion.
