Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing a Blue Beetle series for the animated corner of the DC Universe.
According to Deadline, Miguel Puga(The Casagrandes) has been working on the project since early this year and will serve as the project’s showrunner and director with Cristian Martinez(Women of the Movement, Good Trouble).

The 2023 film’s director-screenwriter duo Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer will return to executive produce the series alongside John Ricard who also executive produced the movie. Galen Vaisman, another EP on the film, will oversee the animated TV series for DC Studios.

The cast has not exactly been determined yet due to pre-existing contracts regarding the live-action film, however, most of them have been approached, and DC has been given a positive response. The series will build upon the film while deviating from repeating the same story. In other words, the show will be in a parallel continuity to better fit the DCU. Jame Gunn has already confirmed Xolo Maridueña’s future in the new universe and Xolo himself just confirmed his return for the animated series on Instagram.
The Blue Beetle film centered around Jaime Reyes, a young man from El Paso who bonded with an alien Scarab. Though he’s not the first or second hero to take the mantle, he is the definitive Blue Beetle.
