Mighty Morphin Power Rangers started the Darkest Hour as a 30th-anniversary comic event, in the same fashion as the Shattered Grid. Melissa Flores has brought the new chapter that sees the Omega Rangers and the Mighty Morphin team fighting against Mistress Vile and Dark Spector, himself. Boom! Studios previously revealed a new Power Rangers Universe comic will take place after issue 116. This new release will feature the return of writer Ryan Parrott as they expand the event with the Ranger Slayer.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115 Features Evil Confronting Rangers
BOOM! Studios, under license by leading toy and game company Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), revealed a first look at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115, the continuation of the Darkest Hour event, taking place after the bold and greatly anticipated Reunited, Recharged era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The superstar creative lineup includes writer Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, The Dead Lucky), artist Simona Di Gianfelice (All New Firefly), colorist Raúl Angulo (Mech Cadet Yu) with assistance by Jose Enrique Fernández, and letterer Ed Dukeshire (The Woods, Irredeemable) in the continuation of this monumental 12-month event, available in December.Â
In something out of a nightmare, Tommy comes face to face with pure evil and watches in horror as the unthinkable happens to his friends… Dark Specter’s power grows and spreads, pitting Zord-against-Zord as the corrupted Rangers battle their loved ones. As Mistress Vile begins to regret what she’s unleashed, two other villains may be the key to the Rangers’ only hope, and the last resort for seeking answers within the Morphin Grid!!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115 features main cover art by star artist Taurin Clarke (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and variant covers by acclaimed illustrators Björn Barends (Spawn), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Adam Gorham (Jughead: The Hunger), and Natacha Bustos (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur).Â
Celebrating 30 continuous years on the air, Power Rangers has become one of the longest-running kids’ live-action series in television history, with more than 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the series celebrates its 30th year with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, an anniversary special streaming exclusively on Netflix. The 30th overall season of Power Rangers, Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury, is currently available exclusively on Netflix.Â
Seeing Tommy come face to face with such a potent evil seemed long overdue, especially since Dark Spector was only seen in Power Rangers In Space. Whereas most Rangers were changed into the form of Dark and Evil servants, it’s brilliant how the white light lore has been magnified in the recent issue. The preview of the comic places a stronger extension on Rita and Tommy’s scorned relationship, which also highlights how far Tommy has come compared to his time as the Green Ranger.
It also places a much-deserved and overdue spotlight on Karen Ashley’s character, Aisha. As the Ranger featured in the early episodes of Power Rangers Hyperforce, it will be amazing to see everyone interact and maybe even see the Drakkon Rangers develop further.
Print copies of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115 will be available for sale on December 27, 2023 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the one nearest you) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.Â
