Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return will feature a new alternate story as Amy Jo Johnson brings forth a new story as if the original team never left. The original Pink Ranger will be writing the new Boom! Studios Power Rangers comic series, along with co-writer Matt Hotson. Ahead of the first release, a Kickstarter campaign was launched for fans to obtain unique and limited releases in celebration of the new comic series. Nico Leon was revealed as the artist for the new comic as he brings Johnson and Hotson’s story to life.

Nico Leon Recreates Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dino Zord Cockpit with High Show Accuracy

The artist for the new comic series recently shared his first attempt at 3D Modelling on social media with fans. His first attempt using the 3D Modelling program, Blender, was revealed to be a recreation of the Dino Zord cockpit seen in the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The recreation is also highly accurate to the set seen in Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, as the footage was adapted into the series. The 3D cockpit for the Zords demonstrated the value of show accuracy from the artist as he highlights his work in making the model accurate in any camera shot.

Leon has also highlighted his obsession with getting his art show accurate to the content featured in the original series. This was established by his various posts regarding the work he has put into the art for the comic, which was emphasized by his 3D model reveal. Along with revealing the model, he also pointed out that the same motivation in getting his 3D model accurate also applies to his artwork for the new comic. While asked on social media about sharing the model, the artist also teased that he may have more to come as he responds to fans regarding his latest work.

“How OBSESSED I am with getting Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return accurate to the TV show? …I learned yesterday to model on Blender only to create the Zords cabin and get it accurate in every shot”

– Artist, Nico Leon

Fans may have already seen the amount of amazing art that Nico has already blessed the Ranger Nation. However, this 3D model goes beyond the usual delights that fans come to expect. As a large amount of the community now 3D models and recreates items, this is another brilliant addition to the mix. It’s fantastic how truly accurate Leon has made the cockpit for the Zord and you can even see it was designed to be changed for the other Rangers.

It would be amazing to see even more work from Leon as there is a lot of potential for bigger scenes or even a whole Zord to be created. Fans are already asking if they can check out the model themselves, as even a VR experience of it would be phenomenal.

Everyone is currently waiting for the new comic series that Leon, Johnson, and Hotson have poured their souls into. To see such dedication to both the comic and the 3D model, Leon shows a lot of promise to deliver an amazing take on the Power Rangers and many fans will be anxious to see the entirety of his work.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
