Spider-Man: Beyond The Spiderverse may have yet to swing across our screens but nothing is stopping Sony from going even further beyond the Spiderverse with a mysterious noir world of Spider-Man with Steve Lightfoot leading the expedition.
Variety reported on the fresh live-action noir take on the web crawler many months ago. Oren Uziel is penning the script and will serve alongside Lightfoot as co-showrunner and executive producer. The series will follow an older seasoned Spider-Man in a neighbourhood that’s not so friendly in 1930’s New York City. According to an unnamed individual close to the project, this webhead will be a different variant whose name is not Peter Parker. This seemingly has nothing to do with the variant we met in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse voiced by Nicholas Cage, so don’t expect to see anyone’s jacket flowing when there’s no wind blowing.

For those of you who boast knowledge upon reading credits, especially without IMDB, you’d recognize the name Steve Lightfoot from his work as the showrunner on Marvel’s hit visceral series The Punisher, which ran for two seasons on Netflix in a time before Disney Plus existed. Not long ago, he created and served as a showrunner on the Apple TV+ series Shantaram, based on the book of the same name. His other works include Hannibal, Narcos, and Behind Her Eyes.
The untitled Spider-Man Noir series is Amazon’s second series revolving around a character from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, or Multiverse in this case. It was previously reported that the streamer was moving forward with the series Silk: Spider Society from showrunner Angela Kang, with several other productions in development. It is not yet known which other Marvel characters will be featured in the other Amazon shows, however, it’s worth knowing that Sony currently controls over 900 characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise.

Uziel developed the series along with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and former Sony chairperson Amy Pascal, who all executive produce. Pascal executive produces via her own studio Pascal Pictures. Sony Pictures Television, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal there.
Is Success In The Cards For The Spider-Man Noir Series?
I have been struggling to understand why Sony has been so adamant about producing so many Spider-Man adjacent projects whether they’re successful or not, but I must confess, I’m intrigued to find out what this show will look like.
The Venom movies have been relatively fun to watch despite an underwhelming sequel, and the only success Morbius found was in memes, however, the direct Spider-Man movies continue to be bonified winners. Perhaps a new show that has Spider-Man in the title will find success too?
