Kevin Owens thinks he and Sami Zayn’s run as tag team champions went under the radar and didn’t do justice to the Usos’ championship run. The Usos are the longest reigning tag team champions in WWE history at 622 days. Therefore their losing championships are no longer considered big deals.
At WrestleMania last year The Usos’ long and dominant reign as Undisputed Tag Team Champions came to an end. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn defeated them for the championships in possibly the best match of both nights of WrestleMania.

The big win for Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn should have pushed them to the top of the card. However, in a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, Owens feels like he and Zayn’s championship run fell under the radar and was visibly disappointed.
“I’ll say this, me and Sami worked our asses off to give main events on Raw every week, that had people going wild, and we succeeded. I’m not one to toot my own horn. I really am not, but I think Sami and I did a lot of special things as champions that went under the radar because they weren’t on pay-per-views. They weren’t in the big, you know, under the big, bright lights, they were usually on Raw. But we had some very special matches and it was great, it was great to have that with them regardless.” H/T to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription
Kevin Owens’ Tag Team Glory Days
Owens and Zayn’s WWE Tag Team Championship run lasted 153 days. In the modern era of wrestling that is a pretty solid reign as a champion. They defended their championships in solid matches against The Judgement Day. Eventually, they lost their tag team championships to Finn Bálor and Damian Priest.
Both Owens and Zayn are well-respected singles competitors and had great matches with Roman Reigns which pushed him to his limit. After taking the titles off the Usos and being great champions they should have been elevated to the top of the card, but that hasn’t happened.
Even though Owens and Zayn had a good run as Tag Team champions, Owens was disappointed in their run as champions and wanted to accomplish a lot more.
“What I wish we could have accomplished, one of the things I had said before we won the title is I hope we were going to do justice to the run that Usos had with them. I don’t think we got the chance to do that but we … it’s certainly not for a lack of trying,”
Not Much Of A Variety To Their Tag Team Title Defenses
Owens and Zayn’s entire time as tag team champions they were involved in a feud with The Judgement Day. It was a good feud and they had great matches, but it didn’t afford them opportunities to show what they were capable of as a tag team. Facing a variety of tag teams would have shown the world what they are truly capable of as a tag team.
Currently, Owens and Zayn are on opposite shows, Owens on SmackDown and Zayn on Raw. The pair have another shot at having the Tag Team Championships and having the run Owens was hoping for doesn’t look like it will happen in the immediate future.

The current champions are Finn Bálor and Damian Priest. They defended their championships over the weekend at Elimination Chamber against New Catch Republic and came out on top.
The next premium live event will be WrestleMania on April 6 and 7. Currently, there is no WWE Tag Team Championship match on the card. However, there is still a lot of time to set up that match. Both Owens and Zayn are not on the WrestleMania card either.
