Digimon Tamers has been an iconic addition to the franchise, but there are loads of reasons why it needs a reboot now. The third anime series was a standalone story that was disconnected from the Adventures continuity.
However, it features a unique integration that would make a big impact if rebooted this year. With the Digimon Liberator in full swing and fans still awaiting an anime, here is why this beloved series needs a reboot to Digivolve Digimon into a new era.Â

Digimon Tamers featured a completely new story that set it apart from the previous two seasons. The series first debuted in 2001 and consisted of 51 episodes and two movies, with English Dub distributed the same year. Simply known as Digimon Season 3 for the English Dub, the series featured Guilmon, Terriermon, and Renamon as the main Digimon partners to Takato, Henry, and Rika. The series also featured the original Digimon Battle Card Game, which could be used with the D-Ark Digivice as part of the series’ gimmick.Â
Digimon Tamers Should Reboot for the Digimon Card Game
Digimon Adventure 2020 reboot has shown that a reinvention can have a huge impact on the franchise. It paved the way for the Digimon Card Game to come into existence, despite the English Dub of the reboot failing to distribute effectively. The Digimon Season 3 reboot could achieve the same powerful impact but will also lead to bigger changes in the future. Many aspects should be considered but here are the fundamental reasons for its potential.Â
Digimon Card Game Needs An AnimeÂ
Digimon Tamers featured the original Battle Card Game as an integrated feature, but the reboot could feature a new integration. Digimon has needed an anime since Digimon Ghost Game, as many fans desire for the debut. However, the Digimon Card Game also requires a way to expand its reach to gain new players. English Dubs are usually later released by Toei Animation, but they provide the best way to gather the hype of a younger audience.Â
With a reboot, the structure of Digimon Tamers could be changed to allow for the Digimon Card Game to be included. This would mean that the new TCG would be able to excite fans into experiencing the game, while also modernizing the story. Like the Adventure Reboot, there are many routes the story could take and even gift fans with new cards like seen in Digimon Liberator. Â
The Characters Are Refreshingly IconicÂ
Although they haven’t been featured for a while, the Digimon featured in the series have made a big impact on the Digimon Card Game. This includes the Terriermon and Lopmon structure deck, which is still considered a powerful deck for competitive play. However, it’s clear that the fans truly love the featured trio, including Guilmon and Renamon. This can also be seen in the Digimon Liberator web novel, with Impmon gaining new evolutions similar to Guilmon’s line.
With the iconic 8 from the original season constantly making their rounds, there could also be a stage for rejuvenation. Agumon and Gabumon especially are always seen so fans may also love the change of pace. It could also be said that the season 3 series is as iconic as the Adventure series, since it had an impactful story and captured the attention of many kids during its original run.
Add Bigger Changes to the Story
Although there were many iconic moments from the Season 3 story, there were other tamers that deserved a better spotlight. Jeri, Kazu, Suzie, and Kenta were treated more like additional characters but did have parts to play as the story progressed. With Ryo, the entire set could become an equivalent of the 8 Digidestined seen in the original series, if given an earlier debut with their partner Digimon in action. It would also be epic to see the full lines of these specific Digimon. It would excite fans to see a new take on all characters while allowing for a new story to captivate the audience.
In addition, it could also be a way to connect two stories. With Digimon Liberator featuring in a full-dive VR game, the concept of Digimon Tamers could also be reinvented. This could mean that Digimon Liberator could be made to exist in the reboot, if the writers wanted.
Thereby allowing for the rebooted Tamers characters to meet players like Shoto, Yuuki, and Arisa, which will feature them in an anime debut. However, it is unlikely that this direction will be considered due to the pre-existing nostalgia.
