A new design has been uncovered that looks to be the official Batman symbol for The Batman franchise moving forward.

The Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Patterson as the title character promises to bring some to make a huge splash during this weekend’s DC Fandome virtual event.

While fans continue to countdown to Saturday night, some good news has been shared to keep the hype train running. DC comics had filed a trademark on the new Batman symbol insignia and it looks awesome.

The new Batman symbol is similar to the design seen on the batsuit in promo images released earlier this year. The new symbol is quite different from other versions of the symbol used in comics and on the big screen.

The Batman symbol has always been a defining trait of the franchise and serves to distinguish this iteration of Batman’s world from the previous one’s created by Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton and others. The latest design is angular with sharp edges, reflecting the utilitarian design that seems to be metal reforged into the iconic symbol. This may hint at a more practical Batman, with perhaps sharper edges than we’ve seen before.

Hopefully during The Batman movie panel, more answers will be shared with viewers on the design decision and if rumors that the symbol used in the armor comes from the gun used to slain Bruce Wayne’s parents. Regardless, we can expect to see this new, iconic image for years to come everywhere from the big-screen to children’s lunchboxes.
