Adam Cole’s WWE contract is set to expire at the end of the week.

According to Fightful Select via Wrestling Inc., Adam Cole’s contract expires on Friday of this week.  Earlier this month it was reported by Wrestling Inc. that Cole was done with NXT after TakeOver 36 which happened Sunday.  His contract actually expired last month in July, but signed a one month extension to get him through one more TakeOver.

At the time it was not known if Adam Cole would sign a new deal with WWE.  They wanted him on the main roster and were told to come up with ideas for him and work on possible storylines in case he did re-sign.  It looks like he is done with WWE unless they are able to work out some kind of last minute deal.  At least he is leaving on his own terms and not an abrupt release like WWE has been doing lately.

Adam Cole Bay-Bay’s NXT Legacy

Cole was first signed to NXT in 2017 and since signing he has done pretty much everything there is to do in NXT.  He led a popular faction in The Undisputed Era, won the NXT Championship, was the inaugural NXT North American Champion, won the NXT Tag Championships and was the second ever NXT Triple Crown Champion.  He was also the winner of the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and was awarded seven different NXT end of the year awards in 2019 and 2020.

A Missing Piece Of The Puzzle

It always seemed to me that Adam Cole was missing something, but I could never figure out what.  However, I can’t deny that his TakeOver matches were always amazing and were a lot of times the best match of the night hence the year-end awards.

If I had to put my finger on what he was missing, I’d say it’s his size.  He is on the smaller side and it would be so easy for him to get lost on the main roster.  WWE wanted to call him up and he probably knew if he was called up he’d be stuck on the mid-card having great matches on the pre-show.  Just look at how amazing wrestlers like John Morrison and Ricochet aren’t given the main event matches like their talent should get them.

Maybe WWE Isn’t The Best Place For Him

When anyone leaves WWE it is almost a foregone conclusion that they will go to AEW and hope for success over there.  However, in this case I think Cole should go to AEW because that is the perfect place for him.  AEW has a lot of guys on the smaller side who he could have some really good matches with and he has the mic skills and charisma to get those big matches over there.

Since Adam Cole was a NXT wrestler he will only have a 30-day non-compete clause on his contract.  Therefore we may be seeing Cole over in AEW or wherever he chooses to go in no time.  Of course he could decide to re-sign with WWE at the last minute so this isn’t a done deal yet.

Do you think Adam Cole should leave the WWE?  Or do you think he should stay in NXT or be called up to the main roster?  Do you think he would excel in AEW or should he go someplace else?  Is there anyone in WWE or AEW who you think he would have an amazing match with?  Drop those thoughtful and insightful comments down below before you leave.
