A veteran of the game and a master at his craft, James Marsters excels at playing characters we love to hate.

The Buffy alum played Victor Stein, another villain will a good deal of layers, in Marvel’s Runaways before the show ended in 219. I sat down with James during the FAN EXPO Dallas 2021 to ask him a few questions about his career.

James seemed quite surprised to learn that characters from Netflix’s Marvel series are rumored to appear in the Disney plus series as well as making the transition into the big screen.

An Evening With James Marsters

When The Illuminerdi asked the venerated actor, “Is there any possibility that we might see any of Marvel’s Runaways characters – or you – in any future MCU projects?” James Marsters jokingly answered, “That is so far above my paygrade,” before adding, “I don’t know, man. I used to be a producer and a director. I know that those people are here [raises his hands up high] and actors come and go [brings the other hand down low].”

“We use the actors as necessary, and if they’re very good or very friendly, we use them again,” Marsters concluded. He then proceeded to give an answer we’ve all heard before, but still try to parse once we’ve heard it. “Dude, you know as much as I do. What I do know is that the Marvel television properties are separate from the movie properties. The possibility of cross-pollination between the two may not be as much.”

Once I mentioned that Charlie Cox is rumored to join the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marsters was taken by surprise. “Are they gonna use Charlie as Daredevil?! Oh, that’s so good! He’s so freaking good!” I also revealed to James that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin might be making an appearance in Hawkeye, which garnered an enthusiastic response. “He was the best Kingpin. Just amazing. That’s very wise.”

Once I mentioned that the cross-pollination might already be in the works, James Marsters recognized that there may be a possibility: “Ok, so maybe less surprising [laughs].”

James was either legitimately shocked by the possibility of characters migrating into the extended universe or he crafted, yet again, another award-winning performance to fool me. Either way, it was a joy and a privilege to talk to such an experienced actor, director, and producer. There is a lot more to come from my interview with James Marsters and FAN EXPO, so don’t forget to follow all of The Illuminerdi’s social media pages! More exclusives are on the way.
