Pixar provides a fresh look at Buzz Lightyear’s origin story with a trailer that introduces the rest of the cast of Lightyear, including a creepy robot cat named Sox.

This sc-fi action movie is about the actual character of Buzz Lightyear, not the toy as you know him. This time around, he’s voiced by Chris Evans.

The new trailer features some of his space ranger friends – voiced by Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi – along with Peter Sohn playing Sox.

Which Lightyear Is Which?

Overall, the layout of the movie seems a little confusing. In a statement, director Angus MacLane tried to clear things up:

“In Toy Story, there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further,” he explained.

“So, my Lightyear pitch was, ‘ What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.” You will have to wait until the official releases on June 17th to see if it’s a movie you want to see too.

Will we see more characters from Toy Story appear? The trailer tells us otherwise.

Disney unveils a redesigned Zurg in the trailer of the movie. This comes as an excited tease for fans to see the evolution the film is bringing to its iconic characters.

In the Toy Story films, Zurg served as Buzz’s archenemy but wasn’t nearly as imposing as he was a parody of Darth Vader from the Star Wars franchise, even recreating the father reveal from The Empire Strikes Back with his appearance in Toy Story 2.

The redesign seen in this trailer establishes him as a far more menacing antagonist than in the past. This is a larger stature for his suit and more invulnerable to Buzz’s firing while still retaining his iconic red eyes, horned helmet and triple-barrel weapon attached to his arm. What do we think of Zurg? Is he intimidating as he looks?

This new Lightyear trailer offers some promising insight into his spectacular character’s development from a young test pilot into the hero that would inspire the fan-favorite action figure. Additionally, the video gives viewers a better glimpse into the voice work Evans provides as Buzz, which may feel nostalgic to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans to the subtle humor of the actor’s work as Steve Rogers/ Captain America.

How do you think Lightyear will turn out? Will it live up to expectation of director Angus MacLane’s idea? Let us know in the comment section below or over on our social media!
