[This second half of the review contains spoilers for Issue #6 of Something Is Killing The Children. You have been warned! But since some (most) of you won’t heed that warning, enjoy a brief spoiler-free review of the story so far.]

Something Is Killing The Children is a fascinating and morbid horror series from Boom Studios. The series is written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Werther Dell’Edera, with coloring from Miquel Muerto.

Something Is Killing The Children Official Synopsis

When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters. That is all she does, and she bears the cost because it MUST be done.

This series is one of the best horror comics on the market right now, and it has only grown more fascinating with each issue.

Erica Slaughter is a mysterious woman with a cold, calloused exterior, a magical stuffed octopus, and a penchant for extra-dangerous chainsaws. The mystery of her backstory is a titillating one, and each issue has thus far tastefully left us with more questions than answers.

The artwork is stunning, featuring rough, jagged linework and natural, earthy color schemes. The design of the monsters and the corpses that they leave behind are pure nightmare fuel. This story will leave readers with a constant sense of dread and a pit in the bottom of their stomach, and you will thank Something Is Killing The Children for making you feel that way.
