Anime and manga distributor, licensor, and streaming provider Crunchyroll shared its new acquisition announcements at this year’s Comic-Con Experience 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil during the Crunchyroll: As Novidades da Plataforma panel. Some of the newest acquisitions for 2023 include such shows as BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense. Season 2, The Reason Why Raelina Ended Up at The Duke’s Mansion, and much more.
Crunchyroll also revealed new trailers for upcoming acquisitions, including Sorcerous Stabber Orphen -Chaos in Urbanrama-, which you can see below:
CRUNCHYROLL SHOWCASES 2023 ACQUISITION SLATE AT CCXP 2022
Kaede Honjo and her friends are back in the upcoming second season of BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. The new season will be available on the platform starting in January 2023. In the show, Kaede continues her journey in a VRMMO game, NewWorld Online, as her alias Maple.

In the new season, Kaede will gain new friends and foes in various battle-filled quests. The show is based on the light novel of the same name created by Yuummikan and illustrated by Koin, along with the manga series drawn by Jiro Oimoto.
Debuting in April of next year is The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up At The Duke’s Mansion. This show is based on the Korean web novel by Michla and was later adapted into a webtoon by Whale. The show is produced by Typhoon Graphics. In the series, Park Eunha enters the world of a novel after a mysterious death.
Eunha is revived as a minor character named Raeliana Mcmillan, who is to be poisoned to death by her own betrothed. The trailer that debuted during the panel teases the mystery that is to come in this intriguing series.
Also debuting on the service in January is Chillin’ in My 30s After Getting Fired From the Demon King’s Army. This new comedy series is based on the light novel written by Rokujuyon Okazawa and illustrated by sage•joh.
The series follows the poor demon Dariel, a soldier in the demon army who is fired for no longer being able to wield magic. As a result, Dariel sets out on a new life to become an adventurer and moves to a human town. However, if the humans find out he’s a demon, it could mean his doom. A subtitled trailer was also released for the show.
My Home Hero joins the Crunchyroll lineup later in April. The show follows Tetsuo Tosu, a middle-aged salaryman who becomes embroiled in the criminal underworld after he confronts and accidentally kills his daughter’s abusive boyfriend, who also happened to be a gangster. The new series is produced by Tezuka Productions.
After being backed into a corner, Tetsuo now has to use any means necessary to protect his family. The psychological thriller is based on the manga written by Naoki Yamakawa and illustrated by Masashi Asaki. You can check out the debut trailer for the series here:
Also showcased was the third season of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, which is being dubbed -Chaos in Urbanrama-. The new season debuts on Crunchyroll in January and will continue the journey of Orphen that could alter the fate of the entire world. The anime series is the continuation of the 2020 remake anime series based on the original fantasy light novel created by Yoshinobu Akita.
Another show set for an April debut is A Galaxy Next Door. The new series is adapted from the manga created by Gido Amagakure. It follows Kuga who seeks to support his two younger siblings with nothing but a small inheritance and a passion for manga. However, Kuga is thrown for a loop when his new, enigmatic assistant, Shiori Goshiki, declares that they are engaged to be married.
This show has an interesting supernatural bent to it as Kuga eventually realizes that Shiori is the princess of the people of a shooting star. After Kuga pricks his finger on one of her thorns, he unwittingly forms a connection with her, making them engaged. You can check out the trailer for the new show here:
Another January series is The Fire Hunter, produced by Signal.MD. The anime series is based on the manga Hikari no Ou by Rieko Hinata and illustrated by Akihiro Yamada. The series showcases the world of Flame Demons, who seek to protect humanity from The Fire Hunters.

Last but not least, Crunchyroll announced the acquisition of My Clueless First Friend, which is due out later next year. The series is produced by Studio Signpost. The story follows a new middle school transfer student Taiyoa Takada, who befriends the reserved Akane Nishimura on the first day of school.
Fans will be able to check out all these shows and more coming to the Crunchyroll platform later next year. Not to mention, the service already has a vast library of anime and manga to choose from and enjoy.
