Joker was not only a controversial film, it’s also has made the most profit out of any other comic book character. Therefore it’s only natural that Warner Bros. would want to play in the sandbox that Todd Phillips created. We already know there’s The Batman in the works by the studio, in which Bruce Wayne will be played by Robert Pattinson.
Perhaps we may also see a sequel to Joker film? As of now, there are no plans to connect the two films. But Todd Phillips, the director of Joker, would like to see someone tackle a film about the Dark Knight set in his villain’s universe.
While talking to Variety at the Palms Springs International Film Festival, Phillips acknowledge that would be curious to see what kind of Caped Crusader we’d get in a Gotham shaped by the Joker narrative. He doesn’t necessarily want to direct the film, but he would be completely on board with someone else taking the reins. Here’s what Phillips had to say:
“It’s a beautiful Gotham. What I would like to see someone tackle is what Batman looks like from that Gotham.”
“I’m not saying I’m going to do that. What was interesting to me about the inclusion of Batman in our movie was, ‘What kind of Batman does that Gotham make?’ That’s all I meant by that.”
Bruce Wayne did show up in Joker as a young boy, but seeing the journey of that man becoming Batman in this world sounds really interesting. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Joker is unlike any we have ever seen to date, so watching a Batman come from this world could also redefine the character.
We wouldn’t mind if an A-List director steps outside of his wheelhouse and take on the challenge of this film. Martin Scorsese, we’re looking at you! We’re just kidding, but honestly, it’s a project that the studio has to be thinking about.
