Disney Eyeing Joker Star Joaquin Phoenix For Peter Pan and Wendy: Exclusive

Looks like the Walt Disney Company is ready to work with Academy Award-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix in their upcoming live-action adaptation of Peter Pan.

We recently shared the news that Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie is being looked at for the role of Tinkerbell in Walt Disney Studios’ live-action adaptation of Peter Pan titled Peter and Wendy.

Now, you can add another DC alum up for a role, as we have learned that Disney has offered the role of the villainous Captain Hook to Joker star Joaquin Phoenix. As we reported on the Robbie story, it again should be noted at this time, only an offer has been sent out and it is unclear if the actor has had any formal discussion with the studio.

We also obtained a breakdown of the classic villain and his faithful first pirate Smee:

Captian Hook: An unhinged, dramatic, and menacing swordsman, who is out to seek revenge on Peter Pan for cutting his hand off and feeding it to a crocodile. When Hook takes Wendy’s brothers John and Michael hostage he uses them as bait to lure Peter Pan.

Smee: A rotund fellow with a great grey beard, Smee is Captain Hook’s main henchman and servant who will do anything to please his captain.

Joaquin Phoenix is hot off his performance in the billion-dollar DC hit Joker, where he played the title character. His performance earned him an academy award nomination at this year’s Oscar ceremony. The actor is no stranger to the Walt Disney Company as he lent his voice to Kenai in Walt Disney Animations Brother Bear (2003).

Peter Pan And Wendy will be directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon), Toby Halbrooks is co-wrote the project alongside Lowery. Jim Whitaker will produce, with production expected to begin on April 13th in Vancouver and wrap towards the end of August. There have been reports that the film could land Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Do you think Phoenix will accept the role? Is he your ideal Hook, or would you rather someone else? Let us know in the comments below.
