Insomniac Rumored to Release New Ratchet And Clank as PS5 Launch Title

Insomniac Games may be releasing a new Ratchet & Clank title for the upcoming PS5 launch, instead of a sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man game.

Industry veteran Colin Moriarty has dropped a rumor about Ratchet And Clank. Insomniac Games’ current projects, including the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, may not be the next game released by Insomniac. Instead, the company will allegedly be finishing up with a new Ratchet And Clank title in time for the PlayStation 5 release (GameFragger reports).

Recently, on an episode of the Sacred Symbols+ podcast (a non-public, Patreon supporter exclusive show) Moriarty talked about Insomniac’s current work and release plans.

Ratchet And Clank Moving Up The Line

“We’re going to get a Ratchet And Clank in-between [Spider-Man and the not-yet-announced sequel] on PlayStation 5. I feel like that’s going to be a launch game, the Ratchet & Clank game that’s long been in development at Insomniac.”

This would not only confirm that Insomniac is working on the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but also a brand new Ratchet & Clank game. As the company is now owned by Sony, both titles are assured to be PS5 exclusives, but Moriarty’s timeline would indicate that the Ratchet & Clank project has been in the works for quite a while, and that the studio may be aiming to release the new game for PS5’s launch day.

Insomniac Games Doesn’t Sleep On The Job

Insomniac Games rose to popularity in the PS1 era with the creation of the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy, and continued their success into the PS2 era with the Ratchet & Clank series. After releasing multiple Ratchet & Clank games for the PS3, along with the Resistance series, the company finished their run with the titular duo in April 2016 with the PS4 exclusive Ratchet & Clank. This puts us at almost 4 years since a Ratchet & Clank title has been released.

Of course, Insomniac didn’t lose relevance without their 2000’s mascot, releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man as a PS4 exclusive in 2018 to extremely positive critical review. Since the immensely popular superhero game was released, fans have been expecting a sequel in the works, especially with Sony purchasing the studio in 2019. With this revelation, it appears that the studio may be working on the Marvel sequel and the Ratchet & Clank title at the same time.

The Illuminerdi will keep an eye out for any updates, as well as any next-gen console news.
