Marvel Studios’ The Eternals has been a project shrouded in mystery from the outset, and fans are eager to gather any sort of information about what to expect from the upcoming fantasy/sci-fi superhero film that will see stars like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Kit Harington enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe as members of the obscure alien race of cosmically-powered demigods known as Eternals.

A new logo, revealed on clothing worn by members of The Eternals cast and crew, could give theorists plenty of the information they crave.

WHAT DOES THIS SYMBOL MEAN FOR THE ETERNALS?

The new logo, which features a circular symbol reminiscent of astrological star-charts or a clock-face, could be referencing the Eternals’ celestial origins as gods, or their long-unnoticed presence in the background of the Marvel Universe’s timeline: according to multiple comments from Marvel president Kevin Feige, the Eternals have been around for as long as the earth itself, and for the past 7,000 years have watched history unfold from the sidelines. Our assumption is that the Eternals have rarely interfered with human affairs, since we’ve never heard of them until now, but we won’t know for certain until the film arrives in theaters – or at the very least, not until the film’s first trailer debuts: probably sometime in May, for the release of Marvel’s Black Widow.

There’s a strong possibility that this logo is completely unofficial, and won’t be used in the film’s marketing campaign at all. But nevertheless, fans will jump at the chance to look into this matter: after all, The Eternals is rumored to include major new developments that could affect the entire MCU going forward, from the introduction of the otherworldly Celestials, heavenly beings with unclear motives and agendas, to possible hints at the X-Men. After all, in the Marvel comics, the X-Gene is a direct result of the Celestials meddling with human biology.
