During last night’s Avengers: Endgame watch along, the Russo brothers answered some of the fans’ questions. One of them was “Does the original Hulk personality still live within Smart-Hulk or is he gone now?” And now we have the answer.

There were plans for Bruce Banner and Hulk to become one at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but they ultimately got scrapped. So everything that happened with the two wound up being offscreen, during the 5 year time jump in Endgame. Now the directors told us that “Smart-Hulk” is a complete new persona, meaning a merger of Bruce Banner and his alter ego.
What Does Endgame Mean For Hulk?
This revelation could potentially lead us to new characterization that could be explored in future movies or series on Disney+. Maybe even teasing that there might be possibilities for other personas of the Hulk to show up, like Joe Fixit or Maestro, but that would be a huge step in Banner’s story.
