Reunited and it feels so good. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are reported to be teaming up once again for the superhero romantic comedy, Ball and Chain.
The headlining duo recently starred in the yet to be released Disney film, Jungle Cruise. The latest film to be adapted from a Disneyland attraction had its release date pushed into the next calendar year recently. However it seems that Johnson and Blunt’s chemistry in the film must be through the roof, because it looks like they have a brand new deal.
Ball and Chain is a Thing…
As first reported by Deadline, the two stars are working on a new superhero movie called, Ball and Chain. This will be a movie adaptation of the short-lived comic book miniseries which was released in 1999 by Homage Comics.
The new project will be written by Emily V. Gordon who worked on hits like The Big Sick and Little America. The movie is likely to premiere on Netflix, but it’s being pitched to movie studios, so who knows what happens.

The Ball and Chain movie and comic’s plot follows Edgar and Mallory Bulson, who decide to file for divorce after three rocky years of marriage. That all changes when a meteor douses them in supernatural energy that gives them both superpowers. However, the catch is that the powers only work when they are close to one another. If this seems a bit familiar, it may be because it appears heavily influenced by the action films of that era like, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Hancock.
Ball and Chain’s schedule and production is of course in limbo due to the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. Make sure you keep with The Illuminerdi for more news and updates on the project.
