Rumors of Kairi Sane’s impending departure have run rampant for the last several weeks and have, unfortunately for WWE fans, finally come true. After a three-year tenure with the company, The Pirate Princess Kairi Sane will depart for a journey back to her home in Japan to be with her family.

Within the confines of the fictional WWE narrative, Kairi Sane fell victim to a vicious assault by Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley. The attack occurred during this past Monday Night Raw during the events of the extremely impressive bout between Asuka and Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s Championship. Following the controversial ending of their match at Extreme Rules, two of the best wrestlers in the world put on a clinic for roughly 30 minutes in a brutal battle for the right to be called the red brand’s true champion.

However, things took a turn for the worst right as it appeared Asuka had Banks right where she wants her. The giant screen at the beginning of the entrance ramp showed the makeshift crowd the fate that awaited Kairi Sane. Asuka leaped into action with the goal of saving her tag team partner, but to no avail. Bayley accomplished her goal and left Kairi Sane in a heap on the ground. Following the count out victory by the brand new Raw Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, Asuka emerged from the backstage trainer’s room angry by what viewers were left to assume would be career-ending injuries to Kairi Sane.

Farewell Pirate Princess Kairi Sane

Kairi Sane took to Twitter Monday night to express her gratitude to the WWE fans who she endeared herself to.

Debuting in the WWE back in 2017, Sane made an immediate impression on the WWE Universe. Her pirate persona mixed with her superior technical in-ring prowess made her a standout from the moment she first emerged. Additionally, her finishing maneuver, the Insane Elbow, dropped jaws every time she was able to pull it off from the top rope.

Kairi Sane would go on to become the victor in the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament on the WWE Network. From there, the performer made the permanent move to NXT where she won the NXT Women’s Championship in a match-of-the-year candidate with Shayna Baszler at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV.

Her main-roster career began on Smackdown as a member of the Kabuki Warriors alongside Asuka. The duo became one of the most entertaining tandems in recent memory and they held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships for 180 days, the longest reign in history. Sane also competed in the first Women’s Royal Rumble Match.

Moreover, Sane’s colleagues posted their own tributes to their friend. From Dolph Ziggler to Mia Yim, its clear every performer enjoyed their time with the Pirate Princess. WWE published a heartfelt message to Kairi Sane on their website early Tuesday morning

“Following Monday Night Raw, Kairi Sane took to Twitter to thank her fellow Superstars, WWE staff and the WWE Universe for their support as she prepares to leave WWE.WWE sends its best wishes to Kairi Sane as she sets sail on her next voyage!”
