At last week’s game awards, Bioware made a huge statement: they are not done just yet. During the World Premiere, Bioware announced a brand new entry in the Dragon Age franchise; Dragon Age 4.Â
As many of you may know, the Dragon Age series started back in 2009 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC and was met with raving reviews and won best RPG at the formerly named Video Game Awards. The sequel, Dragon Age 2, was released in 2011 once again on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Although the game was praised, many players and critics had issues with the setting being limited and controversy regarding certain characters.
The most recent installment, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition was released in 2014 on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC and was nominated at the 32nd Golden Joystick Awards, the 11th Academy Video Game Awards and received best RPG and Game of the Year at the 2014 Game Awards and the 2015 South by Southwest Game Awards. Ever since then, a sequel was put on Bioware and EA’s backburner.
Dragon Age 4 Cinematic Trailer
It’s been rough with Bioware the last year and half, with everything that went down with Anthem. Along with two of their big leads, Casey Hudson and Mark Durrah, leaving the company, everything that went down with Bioware’s publisher EA, the last 5 years has dealt with it’s own fair share of controversy – however that’s a discussion for another time. Back to the matter at hand, It’s fantastic to see that Dragon Age is coming back to the fray.
The question now is will Dragon Age 4 be available on both current gen and previous generation consoles? Will cross-multiplayer be something that Bioware would want to implement into the game?
Dragon Age 4 is slated for a 2022 release. Check out the announcement trailer above and let us know your thoughts on the reveal. Are you a Dragon Age Fan? Are you excited for this sequel?
