Stephen Amell’s wrestling drama, Heels, just announced a big name ex-wrestler and former WWE Superstar, CM Punk, is involved on the show.

Stephen Amell is most known for his titular role on the CW show, Arrow.  Last year, Arrow ended and freed him up to pursue future endeavors.

However, this new role on Heels just may merge his passion for acting and pro wrestling.

In 2015, Stephen Amell dipped his feet into pro wrestling with a storyline featured a feud which developed between Stardust, now known as the AEW Executive Vice President, Cody Rhodes.  It was clear during his match that this was not the first time he had stepped in a wrestling ring.

He wasn’t fantastic, but did know his way around a wrestling ring.  I think it’s fair to say that if he wasn’t an actor he would have pursued pro wrestling.

Perhaps Stephen Amell tapped into his wrestling friends to entice none other than CM Punk to join the show.  Amell posted a picture via his Twitter to officially announce CM Punk’s involvement on the show.

CM Punk AKA Best In The World

CM Punk was king of the indies for a long time before signing with WWE in 2005.  While with WWE he made a name for himself as one of the top guys in the company.  He also became one of the best heels in recent memory.  However, in 2014 he left the company abruptly and under very bad terms.

Since then he has stayed away from pro wrestling for the most part.  However, in the last few years he has moved ever closer to returning to his old calling.  He even did the unthinkable and appeared on a WWE show in a non-wrestling role.  Everytime he has been asked if he would ever return to WWE or wrestling his response has always been “never say never.”  This could perhaps be another step towards returning to the squared circle.  Maybe even an appearance in next year’s Royal Rumble (finger’s crossed).

Heels: A War Between Brothers

Heels is a drama about two brothers, one a heel (bad guy) and one a face (good guy), in a small wrestling promotion in Georgia who are in a war as to who should take over their late father’s wrestling promotion. Presumably, Stephen Amell is the good brother.

It is not known what CM Punk’s role will be on the show.  He has dabbled a little bit in acting recently.  From what I can see it doesn’t look like any wrestlers or ex-wrestlers are cast on the show as actors.  He would be a big name to appear on the show even if it is as himself.  CM Punk could also provide a lot of advice on how wrestling works and be a technical advisor for the show.  However, if he is an actor on the show it may involve some wrestling which will be pretty cool.

There isn’t any word on when the show will premiere, but it will be aired on Starz.

What do you think CM Punk’s role will be on the show?  Are you excited to see him perhaps wrestle on the show? Are there any other wrestlers or ex-wrestlers you’d like to see be cast or have a guest spot?  Maybe Chris Jericho or Undertaker?  Drop a pipe bomb in the comments and let us know what you think about Stephen Amell’s new show.
