Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion is in the midst of pre-production and we have an exciting update for you!
Marvel Studios is wrapping up airing its first Disney+ series, WandaVision, but there are plenty more shows to come down the line. These shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are shaping up to be just as important to the overall story as the films have been for the past decade-plus. This is largely due to the studio efforts to make them as close to “movie quality” as possible.
One show currently in the casting phase is Secret Invasion. Officially announced at Disney’s Investor Day back in December, the series will be based on the 2008 storyline of the same name from Marvel Comics, about Skrulls impersonating various people on Earth. So far, actors Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are set to reprise their MCU roles as Nick Fury and Talos, respectively, and The Illuminerdi’s sources have let us know about three other yet-to-be-cast characters.
New Characters Coming To Secret Invasion
The first role is a male series regular, between the ages of 50-60 years, who will be Secret Invasion’s main antagonist. The second is a female role played by someone who appears to be between the ages of 40-50 years, who will also be a series regular and share many scenes with Jackson’s Nick Fury. Finally, there is a call for an important supporting role in the show to be played by a younger female actor.
There is no solid indication of who these characters will be in the show, however if you use Marvel Comics as your guide, it’s easy to speculate. It would seem likely that the male antagonist will be Dorrek VII, Emperor of the Skrull Empire at one point in Marvel Comics.
Abigail Brand might be the younger supporting female character in question. She is known in Marvel Comics for her ability to create a blue flame able to burn through most metals via her mutant gene. Brand appeared in the Secret Invasion comic storyline and was involved in uncovering the chaos that the Skrulls were causing on Earth. In the comics she even went on to become the head of S.W.O.R.D., so her importance to the story and mythology is clear. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Secret Invasion is set to film from in the second half of 2021 and release sometime in 2022 on Disney+. What do you think of Marvel’s developing Disney+ project? Who do you think they are casting for Secret Invasion? Let us know in the comment section below or over on Twitter!
