Disney’s second trailer for Cruella is out and ready to strut its stuff.

The Craig Gilsepie-directed film starring Emma Stone as titular dog-hating diva matches the tone of the Joker-esque teaser we got a little over a month ago with a PG-13 rating, so make no mistake: this will not be a kids’ movie.  Check out the trailer below:

Disney’s Cruella Official Trailer 2

From what we can gather from this new trailer, Cruella will follow the beloved villainess’ rise to prominence in high-society under the tutelage of Emma Thompson’s character and do it in plenty of marvelously gorgeous outfits that could potentially earn it an Oscar nomination next year. Emma Stone looks to be having the time of her life playing this iconic character, and the dark Devil Wears Prada approach could definitely help it stand out among Disney’s other remakes. It’s a tall, cruel order to fill shoes previously inhabited by the great Glenn Close, but if anyone can handle it, Emma Stone can.

Disney’s live-action remakes have been a mixed bag financially, with more direct translations like Aladdin and Cinderella practically wishing money out of thin air, while the more ambitious feats like Christopher Robin, Pete’s Dragon, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil underperforming. (Despite the latter’s predecessor doing gangbusters at the box office back in 2014). Most of the online buzz around Cruella seems to be mixed-positive so far, so hopefully enough people will be eager to see this dark-looking origin tale to entice Disney to take more risks with this nostalgia-driven updates of their classic catalogue.

DIsney’s Cruella Official Synopsis

Academy Award® inner Emma Stone (La La Land) stars in Disney’s Cruella, an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Cruella, which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs.

She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (Howards End, Sense & Sensibility). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Disney’s Cruella is directed by Craig Gillespie (I Tonya) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis. It was produced by Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday), Marc Platt (Mary Poppins Returns) and Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin), with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff and Glenn Close serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar®- winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road, A Room with a View) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.
