This came at the same time as rumors are once again picking up, this time via Daniel Richtman’s Patreon page, that Heard is in talks with Warner Brothers for a Mera spinoff with HBOMax. The rumor has circulated before, but it has gained more traction recently, especially after Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released last month, with additional footage of Heard as Mera, including a newly filmed scene.

It’s still unknown just how official the pursuit of a Mera spin-off really is, or if they’re just rumors. However these rumors keep coming despite the harassment from onlookers and attempts to get her fired from the upcoming Aquaman sequel. Those attempts haven’t seemed to faze Warner Brothers or anyone working closely with Amber Heard, who is said to be loved not just by her co-stars but by those at the helm of her DCEU projects, Zach Snyder and James Wan.

Both projects have proven to be wildly successful. The Snyder cut version of Justice League earning a 71% Tomatometer and 95% audience score with Rotten Tomatoes, while the first installment of Aquaman reached $1.148 billion at the box office.

And while a certain fandom has clung to rumors of her firing, it seems to have been proven false. In a recent Instagram post, Heard teased that she would be getting a Kindle to read for Aquaman 2 after costar Jason Momoa tore the last few pages of a book she’d been reading in an effort to catch her attention while filming the first installment. A few of Amber Heard’s co-stars have also teased their return, including Patrick Wilson.

Aquaman 2 seems to have started pre-production and is rumored to start filming sometime in June of this year, with shooting locations likely in Warner Brother’s UK studios. It is currently scheduled for release on December 16, 2022, four years after the first installment released.
