Last week was a dark week in the world of WWE.
As reported by many of the Wrestling news websites, WWE released 10 wrestlers due to budget cuts. These were: Mickie James, Mojo Rawley, Chelsea Green, Tucker Knight, Wesley Blake, Kalisto, Bo Dallas, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

According to Fightful Select: Kevin Dunn, WWE’s executive producer and Chief of Global Television Distribution, stated that he did not “get” Billie Kay’s character nor her popularity and verbalized that he saw a ceiling for her in the company.
Billie Kay’s WWE History
Billie Kay signed to the company in 2015 through NXT. In 2016, she competed in her first NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 2, and lost to Ember Moon before debuting in the company.
Later in the year, she and Petyon Royce became the IIconics, feuding with Live Morgan, and then NXT Women’s champion Asuka – which lead to both Royce and Peyton competing for the title belt along with Nikki Cross at NXT Takeover: San Antonio in 2017. Billie Kay would later compete again for the vacant NXT Women’s title at the first NXT Takeover: Wargames against Kairi Sane, Nikki Cross and the winner Ember Moon.
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce would later get called up to WWE Smackdown in 2018, by attacking the new Smackdown women’s champion Charlotte Flair, giving Carmella the opportunity to cash in her MITB to win the title off of her. They would then go on to beat Asuka and Becky and when later beat Asuka and Naomi in a tag team match at Super Show-Down in Sydney Australia.
At Wrestlemania 35 in 2019, Billie Kay along with Peyton Royce captured their first title belt when they defeated the teams of Sasha Banks and Bayle, Tamina Snuka and Nia Jax, and Beth Phoenix and Natalya for the Women’s Tag Team titles and became the longest reigning champions. In 2020, after disbanding due to losing to the Riott Squad, Billie Kay remained on Smackdown while Peyton Royce was drafted to Raw.
Kay was given a new gimmick where she offered her expertise and knowledge to tag teams and single wrestlers to become their managers. She temporarily teamed with the Riott Squad, until teaming up with Carmella and entering the tag team turmoil match at Wrestlemania 37. This would be her final match with the company. We will miss your Billie Kay. Thank you for the memories in the company.
