Some big news on when John Cena will return to a WWE ring was just announced and it’s soon.
As of right now Cena is scheduled to return after the Money in the Bank PPV this Sunday. According to Fightful Select WWE is planning on having him return on the July 23 episode of SmackDown. It will be the first episode of SmackDown after Money of the Bank and they need him back as quickly as possible because WWE has big plans for him.
Cena Is Looking To Main Event SummerSlam
Rumor is John Cena is supposed to wrestle the SummerSlam PPV in August. He is rumored to be wrestling none other than the Head of the Table aka the Tribal Chief aka Roman Reigns. Currently Reigns is the Universal Champion, but he will be facing Edge this Sunday for the championship. Therefore Cena may or may not be facing Reigns for his championship. However, if WWE wants to have this match happen they need to set it up soon hence the quick Cena return. Also planned for SummerSlam is Edge vs Seth Rollins.
Where Has Cena Been All This Time?
John Cena has not wrestled a match in over a year. The last we saw him was at WrestleMania in 2020 in his Firefly Funhouse match against The Fiend. He has taken the time off to focus on his acting career, or so he says. Maybe it just took this long to recover from the mental abuse The Fiend put him through during that darn Firefly Funhouse match. Either way the call of the WWE was too strong for Cena and he’ll be making his return very soon.
WWE Needs John Cena Back On The Roster
I am excited to see Cena return. I missed seeing a wrestler of his skill level and once he returns I think his impact and talent will remind people why he is so highly regarded. WWE is missing that big draw and missing someone who can compete at that top level. Recently WWE has been trying to push wrestlers up to that level or the wrestler tries to pull their opponent to their level.
The superstar is the perfect person to have Reigns wrestle at SummerSlam because it is one of the big four WWE PPVs so it needs a big main event which this almost certainly will be. He is also someone who Reigns can have a great match with and Reigns won’t have to have some special gimmick match just to make the match good. Also Cena is an opponent who can believably beat Reigns for the championship. With Braun Strowman gone there is a void and John Cena can fill it even if it is only for a short time.
