Why Power Rangers Should Do their Own Version of Zenkaiger

We discuss why Hasbro should do their own version of Zenkaiger for Power Rangers' 30th anniversary.

Inclusion of the Multiverse

The multiverse plot is a prominent theme of most content currently, including Marvel and their cinematic universe. Power Rangers has also dived into this concept since the Shattered Grid arc of the comics. As many versions can be included,  because of how it links external productions, Hasbro could create their Zenkaiger-like series to include variations such as the 2017 Power Rangers movie.

Zenkaiger also features the use of different dimensions and universes too, however, they label universes with simple themes. Some of these were silly but great for storytelling in an episode. Power Rangers could go deeper with the story as they could go as deep and dark as they would like. With different dimensions for Dino Charge and RPM, to different universes such as the Coinless/comic universe, there are so many locations Power Rangers could journey into.

It is also worth mentioning that even fans have been using this concept in their fan-made productions. This includes Power Rangers Unworthy, Bloodline of the Grid, and Shattered Past, which are all found on YouTube.

Add even more than Zenkaiger

Although there was a lot of representation featured, there were many things that Zenkaiger didn’t use. This includes extra zords, Rangers, Power-ups, or even special weapons. These could have been used to represent more teams via designs.

Although different various series of Rangers were in categories, some of them were only seen as part of the cannon owned by Zenkaizer. Seasons like Ohranger and Shinkenger did get representation in the form of mini-zords, but they were the only new additions that could be described as auxiliary zords.

The new original could introduce a lot to the Ranger’s arsenal that could deliver more representation. It would also lead to much more excitement as fans love new debuts, especially if they are released as toys or figures.

Greater lore and character links

Ranger fans will always distinctly remember mentors and Allies such as Zordon and Alpha. There have also been many other fan-favorite mentors that fans have loved over the years, with Doctor K from RPM also making a return. Gosei in Megaforce was also a character linked to Zordon, which highlights Zordon’s significance to the brand.

This original season could incorporate these characters as they are just as special to Power Rangers as any addition. Even Secchan in Zenkaiger is reminiscent of Navi in Gokaiger, so it would be amazing to see similarities to an Alpha unit or even Tensou and Circuit.

Hasbro has so much inspirational content to play with and fans would much rather have their own season like Zenkaiger, than Zenkaiger itself. It’s all about using Power Rangers that highlight its differences to Super Sentai. Considering all that is being released, such as Lightning collection figures and now even Zords, with all the experience Hasbro’s team is gaining from studying past shows, it will be impossible for fans to foresee how amazing this type of original could be.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
