After the second film of the Fantastic Beasts franchise got mixed to negative reactions from critics and fans alike, many wondered how the third installment would present itself. Early production for The Secrets Of Dumbledore was also somewhat messy due to script rewrites, shooting delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, and of course the controversial firing of Johnny Depp who played main antagonist Gellert Grindewald due to the domestic abuse allegations from former wife Amber Heard. Which in turn led to the recasting of Grindewald with Hannibal star Mads Mikkelson.

FANTASTIC BEASTS 3 TRAILER BREAKDOWN

Nevertheless production and filming continued and in return finished successfully. We then finally got our official release date for The Secrets of Dumbledore, specifically April of next year.

The trailer for the film itself is very exciting, thrilling, mysterious, hilarious, and of course magical.

We see the Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft, first introduced in the Harry Potter films, and a shot of a Golden Snitch hovering around. We are then shown footage of an older Albus Dumbledore played by Michael Gambon followed by a shot of a younger Dumbledore played by Jude Law. Dumbledore narrates that if we listen carefully enough, the past whispers to you.

We are then shown a shot of Hogsmade Village, with Newt Scammander visiting the Hogs Head. We then see that Newt wants to meet Albus, but instead meets his younger brother Aberforth Dumbledore played by Richard Coyle. Albus walks along the residential streets of New York City during Winter, commenting that the world around them is being undone. We are then finally shown our first look of Mikkelson’s Dark Wizard Grindewald.

Grindewald has increased his followers and potential Wizard Army to a dangerous high, and he is giving a speech in some kind of huge outside compound to his loyal followers, and bewitching the memory of a follower, possibly with enchanting him with hate. Then we see Albus telling Newt that in order to defeat Grindewald he has to trust him. Then we see Newt journeying to a a mysterious cave and a rainforest.

The Fantastic Beasts trailer then takes us back to New York and shows footage of Newt best Muggle friend Jacob, which joins Newt and Albus in their mission to stop Grindewald. We are then shown a shot of Newt in Asia, possibly China or Bhutan as Wizarding World creator J.K Rowling explained that the third film will explore those countries magical communities, not to mention a village in what we assume is Germany.

We are then shown screenshots of the group that will help Dumbledore take down Grindewald. They are of course Newt Scamander, Bunty Newt’s assitant, Yusuf Kama a Wizard from a very old family, Eulalie Hicks a school teacher possibly from Hogwarts, and of course Jacob Kowalski.

One of the main highlights of the Fantastic Beasts trailer is Newt giving Jacob a wand. Now this could be a huge significance, mainly because Muggles are not supposed to have magical powers or qualities. But some could inherit the Magic gene, so there’s a high chance this film show us that Jacob could potentially become the first Muggle born Wizard, and introduces the concept of the Magic gene. Newt’s brother sarcastically ends his speech saying who wouldn’t like our chances with Jacob trying to do magic.

Heading back to Hogwarts, Albus and Aberforth comment that they are off to save the world. Then comes our first shot of Ezra Miller’s Credence, now with long hair and a Phoenix flying towards him. Then we are shown montage clips of Jacob and Queenie in a bakery shop hugging, Albus holding the blood pact he did with Grindewald, and Newt in a mysterious cave. Then we are shown the most hilarious scene of the trailer where Newt and Thasseus have to escape a cave full of fire crabs with Newt instructing him to swivel slowly, similar to a hilarious dance.

The sequence ends with a creature chases the brother in the cave. We then see a shot of Queenie in a black dress and now lighter hair, possibly being now negatively influenced by Grindewald, and implying she might become a major antagonist. We are then show a Mountainous landscape with Credence cutting through a shroud of magical light, and Newt climbing a Spiral staircase meeting Grindewald. Grindewald then raises his wand an comments how their war with the Muggles begins, possibly teasing the start of the first Wizarding War.

The climax of the trailer shows Credence running through a street with his Obscurus form colliding with Dumbledore. The trailer then ends with Jacob in the Great Hall at Hogwarts eating food with a first year Gryffindor student. The student then tries to reach for Jacob’s wand but hilariously pulls it back. The student asks where Jacob got his wand, and he hilariously states its was a Christmas gift.

The trailer for The Secrets Of Dumbledore had a lot to take in, but we got to see one of the main highlights of the upcoming film. Some of those possibly seeing the Magical community Germany, China, and Bhutan. Then we are shown more of the relationship between the Dumbledore brothers. We are also shown on how Grindewald’s power is rising and is becoming a danger to the world.

Most shocking is Jacob potentially becoming a Wizard. The only one missing in the trailer is Newt’s love interest and second protagonist Tina played by Katherine Waterston. Hopefully we get to see her in the next trailer. But yes the Secrets Of Dumbledore looks to be very promising, hopefully it can also have the charm that the First Fantastic Beast and the Potter films had.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore will premiere on April 15th, 2022 on theaters worldwide. The film is set to star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Teuch, Jessica Williams, Mads Mikkelson, and reportedly Richard Coyle. Music will be done by James Newton Howard and Cinematography by George Richmond. The film will be edited by Mark Day. Steve Kloves and creator J.K Rowling will write the film’s screenplay. The film will also be produced by J.K Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram, Tim Lewis, and David Heyman. Then finally the film will be directed by David Yates.
