The Hardy Boys star Riley O’Donnell reveals that Season 2 will further explore her character Biff’s backstory in our new exclusive interview.
A new mystery has surrounded the townsfolk of Bridgeport! After six months of solving the case of their mother’s murder, the Hardy Brothers, Frank and Joe, have another mystery on their hands in Season 2 of The Hardy Boys. This time, the mystery involves a missing teen named Dennis, who is a classmate of the brothers. To help them find Dennis is the return of their friends from Season 1, including new ones for Season 2. One of those returning friends is Biff Hooper, with Riley O’Donnell reprising the role.
The Origins Of Biff Hooper
In the original book Hardy Boys series, created by Edward Stratemeyer, Biff Hooper was male. His first name was Allen, and he is one of the Hardy brother’s closest friends. The character made his first appearance in the first novel of the series The Tower Treasure (1927). Biff is depicted as this muscular teen with blonde hair in the books. He has also helped the Hardy brothers on numerous cases throughout the book series. In Hulu’s adaptation of The Hardy Boys, Biff is reimagined as a female, and the character’s real name has been changed to Elizabeth.

In Season 1 of The Hardy Boys, Biff is portrayed as a young girl and resident of Bridgeport. She is the adoptive daughter of the town’s Deputy Officer, Jesse Hooper. In the first season, Biff is a close friend to Joe. She assists Joe and Frank in their investigation regarding the death of their mother, Laura. Throughout the investigation, they uncover an ancient mystery surrounding Bridgeport.
We at The Illuminerdi had the opportunity to interview Riley at Wondercon 2022. During the interview, we asked Riley if Season 2 would further explore the relationship between Biff and Officer Hooper. Riley revealed that the second season would indeed explore the relationship between the mother and daughter. But would also delve deeper into Biff’s backstory hinted at in Season 1. Riley’s co-stars Rohan Campbell, Alexander Elliot, Keana Lyn, Adam Swain, Cristian Perri, and newcomer Krista Nazaire were present during the interview.

Riley O’Donnell: Yeah it definitely does. I mean Biff is very interested in finding out more about where she came from after we find out in Season 1 that she’s adopted. We get to dive into that a little more and see how that impacts the relationship her mom Jesse.Riley O’Donnell | Wondercon 2022
Biff is one of my favorite characters on the show and even in the books. The writers reimagining the character as a female for the show was surprising, but so far, Riley has done a fantastic job portraying Biff. Her chemistry with Joe is one of the highlights of the show. With Riley’s answers, I am now excited for Biff’s backstory or potential origins to be explored more in Season 2. Additionally, since Joe and Biff were very close in Season 1, I wouldn’t be surprised if the two develop into something much more. Maybe develop into something romantic? All episodes of The Hardy Boys Season 2 are now available to stream on Hulu.
