James Gunn shares a new image of DC’s Judomaster from his upcoming Peacemaker series.

James Gunn has a knack for making obscure characters beloved. He did it with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and again with numerous characters in The Suicide Squad, like Polkadot Man, Ratcatcher 2, and King Shark. Gunn is continuing his work on the latter with his follow-up series, Peacemaker, that features John Cena returning to the role of the brutal patriotic mercenary who will do literally anything for his country.

The series picks up after the events of The Suicide Squad and will consist of eight episodes written by Gunn. Very little has been given away about the story, but we do know the series stars John Cena as Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, Steve Agee as Economos and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith. Aside from the announced cast, Gunn shared a picture on his Twitter of Nhut Le as Judomaster.

Nhut Le as Judomaster in Peacemaker

Judomaster is a deep-cut DC character, to say the least. There have been 4 different Judomasters, Hadley “Rip” Jagger, Thomas Jagger, an unnamed one, and Sonia Sato. It is assumed this version of the character will be one of the Jaggers, with Thomas Jagger being the frontrunner as Le’s youth is aligned to Thomas Jaggers. It would also serve thematically that Hadley Jagger and Peacemaker served together in the military, so it can still go either way or be completely different entirely. While we don’t know much about the character, we do know he looks very different than his comic book counterpart/

Le’s Judomaster rocks green combat gear rather than a red and yellow bodysuit. He was first seen in the series Teaser during DC Fandome. In the teaser we see Judomaster doing some damage to Vigilante. as well as glimpsed in what appears to be a chase scene. With Gunn’s track record of making the lesser-known characters of the world’s biggest comic book franchises household names, it is hard to not be excited for Judomaster and Nhut Le’s future as the character. Le’s Judomaster is also featured in the Official Trailer for the series which you can watch below.

Peacemaker Official Trailer

In the trailer, we see Judomaster also tangling with the show’s titular “hero,” as well as a bald eagle hugging John Cena, among the numerous action and comedy sequences. The series looks to threaten audiences with a good time. Luckily fans only have a short wait as Peacemaker is set to premiere on January 13, 2022, on HBO Max.
