The Flash himself, Grant Gustin, has officially signed on for the ninth season of the show, making The Flash the longest-running show set in The CW’s Arrowverse.
Gustin first appeared as the titular character in an episode of Arrow which served as a backdoor pilot for what would become The Flash. The series then premiered on the network in 2014 and was a huge success for the network. The show has steadily declining ratings in recent years, however.
The success of the show prompted the network to greenlight even more series based on DC Comics such as DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and most recently Stargirl. The series’ have often done crossovers making the Arrowverse the DCTV equivalent to that of the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now that Grant Gustin has signed on for the ninth season of The Flash fans have been excited to see the star return. However, it has prompted speculation that the ninth season could be its last.
Will The Flash Season Nine Be The Show’s Last?
The Flash’s ninth season is being rumored to be the show’s swansong due to the possibility of the series’ end. However, this is, of course, just speculation as neither The CW nor Gustin have confirmed said rumors.

Regardless, this would make sense considering Gustin supposedly declined a potential multi-year deal for this one-year deal instead. After doing the show for nine years it seems that the star wants to leave the door open for other projects.
Long-time fans of the show have also complained about the show’s decline in quality over the years. Both the show’s storylines and special effects seem to have become worse over the years. In the eyes of many fans, the show had run its course a few years ago and was just being renewed by The CW to cash in a quick check.
Comparing The Flash to other more recent DC show shows such as Superman & Lois and Stargirl it has become apparent that Warner Bros. is willing to put a higher budget with their newer shows.
However, with some of the older shows, the special effects have been compared to that of an amateur fan film. We know that they are capable of doing it. Superman & Lois is absolutely beautiful. Perhaps this negligence is the true telltale sign that The Flash could be on its way out.
The Flash’s eighth season is currently airing on The CW and stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash/Reverse-Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Dr. Caitlin Snow and Frost, Danielle Nicolet as D.A. Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, and Jesse L. Martin as Joe West.
