After 45 years, The Electric Mayhem Band is making a comeback, and the group of musical Muppets is getting their own, original TV series exclusively for Disney+ titled, The Muppets Mayhem.

Disney+ announced this week that a new Muppets comedy series is coming to Disney+. The new series, The Muppets Mayhem, will follow the longtime band, The Electric Mayhem Band, as the group records its first-ever music album. Lilly Singh (A Little Late With Lilly Singh, Dollface) will star in the show as the human lead role of Nora, a junior A&R executive in charge of managing and wrangling The Electric Mayhem Band.

The Muppets Mayhem is developed by Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs), Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes, based on the iconic characters created by Jim Henson. It’s also written by Goldberg, Barretta, and Yorkes, with Goldberg and Barretta serving as executive producers alongside Michael Bostick and Kris Eber. Yorkes is attached as the show’s co-executive producer. The Muppets Studio’s David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter are also credited as executive producers for the new show.

In the new show, The Electric Mayhem goes on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With help from the young music executive, Nora, the group has to face the current day music scene as they attempt to go platinum. The key Muppet players starring in the show are Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on Drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet.

Executive Producer and SVP of Disney Live Entertainment and The Muppets Studio David Lightbody said via press release: “We are so excited to bring the story of The Electric Mayhem Band to the front and center of this new series. They’ve been entertaining audiences since The Muppet Show, which debuted 45 years ago, so it’s wonderful that these characters are finally getting to play lead rather than supporting roles.”

ABC Signature President Jonnie Davis added on the new series, “Adam F. Goldberg is our resident Muppet enthusiast at Signature and getting to play in the sandbox with Bill, a longtime Muppet performer, as well as these beloved characters was a dream come true for him, Bill and Jeff.” Davis continued, “Their take is fresh, fun, musical and of course, hilarious. We couldn’t be happier to be the studio that is helping them get the band back together.”
