Kermit stated in the fun segment:

“It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more.”

“Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’  And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony,  I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again”.

With this quirky and adorable press release, hopefully new fans can cherish the magic of what The Muppet Show gave fans forty-five years ago.

Disney bought rights to the Muppets franchise in 2004. Ever since the Disney acquisition, the Muppets have a huge resurgence and made multiple appearances in mainstream media, including the two Disney produced films The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014).

Disney produced shows for the franchise, such as a primetime limited series that aired from 2015 to 2016, a Muppets Babies reboot, and a Disney Plus Original Series called Muppets Now. So it was about time that Disney decided to bring back the classic original hit show that brought the Muppets their fame into Pop Culture media.

The Muppet Show was originally created by the late legendary animator and puppeteer Jim Henson. The original Muppets series was a half hour long show that featured mascot Kermit The Frog as host and showrunner. The series originally aired from 1976 to 1981 on the United Kingdom’s ITV channel before being featured and programmed in the United States on CBS. Besides Kermit, The Muppet Show also starred iconic characters such as Gonzo, The Swedish Chef, Sam The Eagle, Hecklers Statler, Fozzie Bear, Waldorf, Miss Piggy, and many others.

Additionally, the show’s music was also performed by Muppet characters Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, with the Animal serving as drummer. Besides the colorful Muppet characters the show featured many celebrity guests. Those guests included Sir Elton John, Steve Martin, Liza Minnelli, Alice Cooper, Bernadette Peters, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Gene Kelly, Mark Hamill, Julie Andrew, and many more.  Soon fans can relieve these fun episodes and memories of The Muppet Show.

The Muppets have been entertaining audiences and families worldwide for sixty years. Created by the late legendary puppeteer and animator Jim Henson he created an iconic pop culture franchise. First introduced on the Sam and Friends show in 1955 the Muppets became a favorite with audiences. Then when they had their own original series called The Muppets Show that’s when it became an iconic entertainment franchise.

The franchise has been regarded as a staple in the entertainment and pop culture industry. The Muppets franchise also been recognized by my many cultural institutions and organizations. These include the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, American Film Institute, Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and the Library Of Congress. The Muppets are here to stay for a long time and hopefully many years to come.

The original Muppet Show will release on February 19, 2021,  It will include all five seasons of the classic hit series.
