Squid Game the Challenge has been given the green light from Netflix. The show will be a reality TV Adaptation of the Squid Game series with actual contestants.
Squid Game

Squid Game is officially being made into a reality TV show where contestants could win a huge life-changing sum. The new show will take the multi-game challenges seen in the survival drama series and allow participants to experience the thrill of competing for a grand prize as seen in Netflix’s renowned TV series. The popularity of the South Korean show has reached audiences around the globe and has now led to a reality TV challenge that will test fans at the same games that people may recognize from their own childhood.

Squid Game was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and was released as a Netflix exclusive in September 2021. The series was centered on a contest involving 456 players, who risk their lives to play a series of children’s games for a chance to win ₩45.6 billion. These contests all had financial hardship and discovered that the games had deadly consequences for anyone who lost any game. The show became a worldwide sensation and Netflix’s most-watched series, as the top-viewed program in 94 countries. Some of the games featured in the series included the following.

  • Red Light, Green Light
  • Tug Of War
  • Marbles
  • The Glass Tile Game

Squid Game Becomes a Real Game

Netflix is bringing the global phenomenon Squid Game to life with the biggest reality competition series ever, Squid Game: The Challenge. With both the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history, 456 real players will enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of $4.56 million.

As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them. The stakes are high, but in this game, the worst fate is going home empty-handed.

Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”

Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series

The 10-episode competition series is a co-production between Studio Lambert (The Circle) and The Garden (24 Hours in A&E), part of ITV Studios, and it will be filmed in the UK. Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, Toni Ireland from Studio Lambert, John Hay, Nicola Hill, and Nicola Brown from The Garden will serve as executive producers. The scripted drama Squid Game holds the record as Netflix’s most popular series of all time, with over 1.65 billion view hours in the first 28 days after its September 2021 premiere.

On June 12, 2022, Squid Game was officially renewed for season 2 as Netflix and Director Hwang confirmed they will once again team up for a whole new round.

Recruitment is open now at SquidGameCasting.com. For this round, the Front Man is in search of English-language speakers from any part of the world.

This challenge is going to be calling people far and wide as the premise of participating in the same games seen in the survival drama will attract many fans. It’s safe to assume that no one will die like the fate seen by many of the players who were eliminated from the competition. However, the grand prize will be hard to resist with open recruitment allowing anyone to join. It’s also interesting that there is a casting option for the US, UK, and global separately so many people could end up being mixed against each other during the games.

For now, the recruitment process has begun so the airdate will likely follow once the participants have been selected, but if you wish to take part then make sure you apply quickly before it’s too late.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
