The Rings of Power premiered on September 1st, 2022, on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, with the bonus of the first two episodes released for fans to enjoy. The series was the most expensive television series made to date and was launched worldwide, with the rest of the episodes set to release weekly.

Characters from the well-known stories make their appearance in the show at the dawn of their time, including key individuals such as Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), and Durin (Owain Arthur). The story follows the fall of Morgoth, with a false peace spread throughout Middle Earth as all people in the land begin to rebuild. However, signs suggest shadows of a threat linger and new darkness begins to rise.

Amazon has revealed the success of its new Prime Video series by reporting that 25 million people worldwide watched the show on its first day. This first-day release has become Prime Video’s top premiere, with approximately 240 territories able to view the new series based in Tolkien’s world. The figures suggest that about an eighth of subscribers to Amazon prime watched the premiere, as about 200 prime members have access to watch The Rings of Power

“It is somehow fitting that [J.R.R.] Tolkien’s stories, among the most popular of all time and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre, have led us to this proud moment. I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew, for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy. And it is the tens of millions of fans watching, clearly as passionate about Middle Earth as we are, who are our true measure of success.” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke

The release of the show has proven how much fans have missed Tolkein’s world, as it remains to be one of the greatest fantasy worlds ever created. The fact that there are such a limited number of episodes left, will likely leave many restless until the next series is released. Each episode has been an absolute delight to watch and the wait for each episode makes them even sweeter when they are released. The second series is reported to be filmed in the UK with the production expected to start later this month.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
