Iono finally reveals her signature Pokémon to give Pikachu some shocking competition.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet takes place in Paldea, a region based on the Iberian Peninsula. Trainers attend Naranja or Uva Academy, where they are assigned an independent study project called the Treasure Hunt. There are three stories (Victory Road, Path of Legends, Starfall Street), all of which are up to the player to create in the series’ first open-world mainline installment.
Have You Met The New Pokémon Trainer Iono?
The official website has been updated to include official artwork and information on Levincia’s Electric Gym Leader, Iono. Also known as the Supercharged Streamer, she hosts her online show Iono Zone, where she emphasizes viewership and view count on her channel. She has numerous catchphrases: “Your eyeballs are MINE—caught in my Electroweb!” and “’Ello, ‘ello, hola! Ciao and Bonjour!”

(In case anyone is still thinking it, Iono is wearing expressive hair clips, NOT a variant of Magnemite.)
Bellibolt Charges Up!
Continuing the use of nonstandard Pokémon reveals, Iono reveals the answer to her quiz game, made into a two-parter. Although in-universe viewers guessed Pikachu and Croagunk, one of her subscribers managed to guess correctly. Her signature Pokémon is a new Pokémon from Paldea, Bellibolt!
Bellibolt is an Electric Type, classified as the EleFrog Pokémon. It stands at 3’11” (1.2) and weighs 248.6 lbs (113 kg). (It is as tall as Lucario and Wiglett!)

As Iono hinted, Bellibolt expands and contracts its squishy, elastic body to generate electricity from its navel dynamo. It then discharges its electricity from its eyeball-like bumps. These pseudo-eyeballs are useful for intimidation when its real eyes are small and cute.
Bellibolt’s easygoing personality means that it is not likely to attack first. However, it can move fast when it feels like it, as seen in Iono’s streaming show. After sunset, one can hear noises from Bellibolt’s habitat. Those are not its cries, but its stomach signaling hunger.

Bellibolt’s new ability Electromorphosis has it charge up when hit, boosting the next Electric move it uses. From its ability, biology, and personality, Bellibolt could be a mighty glacier: strong but slow. This would break the trend of Electric Gym Leaders having fragile speedsters as their signature Pokémon. However, Bellibolt could very well be a speedster like most Electric Types.

Bellibolt’s name combines “belly” and “bolt”, fitting how it generates electricity and has occasional jolts of nimbleness. Its Japanese name is ハラバリー (Harabarii), a portmanteau of 腹 (hara, meaning “belly”) and バリバリ(bari-bari, the onomatopoeia for electricity crackling). The French name Ampibidou comes from “amphibien” (amphibian), “ampoule” (ampule, lamp, bulb), and “bidou” (tummy). The German name Wampitz combines “Wampe” (belly) and “Blitz” (lightning). Spanish and Italian retain the English name.
