THE WORLD OF THE WITCHER: BLOOD ORIGIN TAKES FORM IN NEW TEASER TRAILER

Blood Origin is the latest spinoff for Netflix’s The Witcher franchise. Last year saw the debut of the anime prequel The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf and also Season 2 of the ongoing series starring Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan. Blood Origin is a new prequel detailing the world of The Continent 1,200 years before the events of the main series surrounding Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and the hidden princess Ciri.

At the time of Blood Origin, the Continent and the world are inhabited by elves. However, the prequel will explore a pivotal event called the Conjunction of the Spheres, which brings the other races of monsters, men, and elves to the Continent, and the worlds merge into one. The series is also going to explore the creation of the first prototype Witcher, along with what led to the original Conjunction catastrophe.

Based on the latest teaser trailer, it appears the new spinoff show will be another bloody, violent, and intense dark fantasy series. It also looks to have an exciting cast, headlined by Michelle Yeoh, fresh off her role in this year’s hit film, Everything Everywhere All at Once. It will be interesting to see how the series depicts the Conjunction, which is one of the most pivotal events of The Witcher anthology, and it’s never truly been depicted in a live-action motion picture version.

Since the prequel series will deal with the conjunction, it will more than likely mean a scattering of the elven people and their cultures when the monsters and other races arrive on the Continent. The arrival of humans brought about the ruin of elven kingdoms and their homelands.

Blood Origin features The Witcher writer Declan De Barra as lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is also a producer on the spinoff. The show stars Michelle Yeoh as Scian, Lenny Henry as Chief Druid Balor, Sophia Brown as Eile, Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, Mirren Mack as Empress Merwyn, Lizzie Annis as Zacare, Francesca Mills as Meldof, and Zach Wyatt as Syndril. Minnie Driver is also slated to appear in the series in a special appearance.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is a four-part prequel miniseries. It finally debuts on Netflix on December 25. Meanwhile, Season 3 of The Witcher series arrives on Netflix in Summer 2023. Season 3 will be Henry Cavill’s final season on the show as Geralt of Rivia. He departs from the series following Season 3, and he’ll be replaced by actor Liam Hemsworth for the planned Season 4.
